Sixteen subdivisions of the Four Noble Truths

The four aspects of the truth of suffering—impermanent, unsatisfactory, empty, and not the self; those of the truth of origination— source, cause, intensely producing, and condition; those of the truth of cessation—cessation, pacification, goodness, and definitive; and those of the truth of the path—path, pertinent, effective, and conducive to release. (See Treasury of Precious Qualities, Appendix 3.) [NLF 2005]

Suffering, impermanence, emptiness, and selflessness are the four aspects of the truth of suffering; cause, arising, appearance, and condition are those of the truth of origination; cessation, quiescence, excellence, and renunciation those of the truth of cessation; and path, method, attainment, and liberation are the four aspects of the truth of the path. [GWPT 2004]
