The translator Ngok Loden Sherab travelled to India, where he worked on a translation of the Ornament of the Sutras. In this he came across a passage where the word “to be attached” occurs three times together. Wondering how he could translate the same word three times, he consulted Vairotsana's old translation and found that Vairotsana had translated it as referring to the three tenses, past, present, and future, with the sense of “hesitation.” [chags thogs: chags, to be stuck on something; thogs, to be prevented from moving forward.] [ZT, 2006, translator's notes]
