(713-763) Principal discípulo de Śāntarakṣita e, tal como este, grande figura da escola Yogācāra-Madhyamika. Foi convidado a visitar o Tibete onde travou e venceu um grande debate com o mestre chinês Hoshang Mahāyāna, estabelecendo a abordagem gradual, própria da tradição indiana, como elemento normativo do budismo tibetano.

An 8th century Indian master and exponent of the Yogacharya Madhyamika school. He was a disciple of Śāntarakṣita and accompanied the latter when he was invited by King Trisong Detsen to establish the Dharma in Tibet and found the monastery of Samye. [TLWF 2011]
One of the principal disciples of Shantarakshita, continuing his master's synthesis of the Madhyamika and Yogachara (ninth century). [LLB 2002]
