A sixth-century Indian master and author of unparalleled dialectical skill. He followed the Madhayamaka tradition of Nāgārjuna and reaffirmed the Prāsaṅgika standpoint of Buddhapālita, against Bhāvaviveka, as the supreme philosophical position of the Mahāyāna. He is thus regarded
