The udumbara flower is said to blossom only once in a kalpa and is therefore used in Buddhist teachings as a symbol of exceptional rarity. [TLWF 2011][NS]

A mythical lotus, extremely large and rare. It is said to flower only once in a single kalpa. [LLB 2002]
