A psychophysical component that circulates in the subtle channels of the body and acts as the support of the mind. In ordinary beings the wind energy is impure. It is called karmic energy (las kyi rlung) because it is contaminated by karma. When purified, however, it becomes wisdom energy (ye shes kyi rlung). [TPQ, 2010]

Lit. “wind,” being described as “light and mobile”: any one of a number of subtle energies that regulate the functions of the body and influence the mind, which is said to ride or be carried on the rlung like a rider on a horse.
